The Curation: Why These Two Specific Oils?

• Prickly Pear Seed Oil | The Liquid Gold of the Desert We selected this rare, precious oil because it is one of nature’s most luxurious sources of cellular restoration. It takes nearly one million hand-harvested seeds just to press a single litre of this exceptional lipid. Cultivated sustainably in the sun-drenched Free State of South Africa, it is uniquely rich in Linoleic Acid (Omega-6). We chose it because it functions as a "dry oil" - it absorbs almost instantly into the skin without leaving a heavy, greasy residue, delivering immediate barrier structural integrity, deep hydration, and natural squalene to plump fine lines from within.
• Raspberry NECTA™ (Upcycled) | The Circular Hero & Antioxidant Shield Almost a third of every bottle of Illume is made from our upcycled raspberry oil - our highest inclusion of an upcycled ingredient to date. Cold-pressed from raspberry seeds recovered from the juicing industry, this nourishing oil is naturally rich in omega-3, omega-6 and vitamin E. It helps support the skin’s moisture barrier, improve softness and protect delicate skin against daily environmental stress. Far from an ordinary raspberry oil, it contains nearly 20% more naturally occurring tocopherols than standard raspberry seed oil and showed 120% higher antioxidant activity than standard raspberry seed oil in supplier testing. Skin also showed improved hydration when measured two hours after application. Each Illume bottle contains the oil recovered from the seeds of approximately 300 upcycled raspberries, helping dry, tired-looking skin appear smoother, more supple and naturally luminous.
